LITIGATION
Litigation is the main fulcrum upon which our practice revolves. The litigation unit is comprised of all the counsel in the firm.
At Westpoint Chambers we believe that all areas of Law Practice have a potential to end up in litigation, we also know that litigation is not desirable in all cases and that the best interest of the client is usually represented by the lawyer who has enough experience in the court rooms to be able to discern pitfalls and booby traps in seemingly non- contentious matters such as drafting a simple agreement. For instance, do you know that there is a world of difference with serious implications between the imports of the words ‘deposit’ and ‘part payment’? But lawyers use them indiscriminately in agreements and thereby create problems for their clients if such agreements somehow, eventually get to court for interpretations.
The experience we gather from litigation in disputes involving a wide range of instances is what we redeploy and bring to bear in all other areas of our practice with similar issues. A good litigation lawyer, we believe, will make a better counselor/adviser.
Our litigation team has handled a diverse range of commercial, industrial and personal disputes at different levels of court and administrative panels in Nigeria covering a broad area of substantive law including but not limited to: election petitions, insurance, Banker/customer disputes, recovery of debts, contract, tort, property law, landlord and tenants, oil and gas, trade disputes, securities and exchange, criminal case defence and prosecution, energy/mining law, marine law, aviation et al.
